Jeff Sessions: DOJ is ‘in really strong sync’ with Trump

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the Department of Justice is in “sync” with President Trump when it comes to his view of what the department should be doing.

“The key thing for me is that President Trump’s view of what the department should be doing every day, whether it’s crime, violent crime, opioids, whether it’s immigration and other fraud and those kind of things, we are in really strong sync,” Sessions told the Hill in an interview aired Thursday.

Sessions said the department “thoroughly appreciates” everything the president has tasked them to do.

“We embrace it. Every day we’re working to carry out that agenda,” Sessions said. “Actually it’s quite thrilling some days and difficult on other days.”

Trump and Sessions have had a strained relationship since Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation.

The president has said he would have picked someone else to be his attorney general if he knew that Sessions was not going to testify on his behalf and instead recuse himself from the probe into alleged Russian collusion with the Trump campaign.
