Fickle GOP wants Mike Lindell to chair RNC but like incumbent McDaniel

Republican voters observing the final hours of the three-way race for the chair of the Republican National Committee want MAGA cheerleader and MyPillow’s Mike Lindell in the post but have a favorable view of incumbent Ronna McDaniel.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey just previewed to Secrets, Lindell leads among Republican voters with 30%. He is followed by Trump lawyer Harmeet Dhillon at 20% and McDaniel, seeking her fourth term, at just 15%.

But when asked about two critical issues hanging over the unusually competitive and heated race that wraps up tomorrow, it appears that GOP voters are satisfied with McDaniel’s management of the Capitol Hill-based party headquarters.

First, asked if they have a favorable view of McDaniel, most Republicans answered yes. Rasmussen said that 43% had a favorable opinion of her, 35% had an unfavorable view, and 22% were unsure.

Second, when asked if the RNC or Democratic National Committee had been more effective in helping elect candidates, 43% of Republicans chose McDaniel’s team to 26% for the DNC.

To be clear, general GOP voters do not get a vote in the chairmanship. That is up to the RNC’s 168 voting board members.

McDaniel has been under fire for the party’s lackluster 2022 midterm election results and former President Donald Trump’s 2020 loss. All three candidates have been rolling out Trump-linked endorsements, but he hasn’t indicated a favorite.

Because the race is divided, McDaniel is considered the front-runner. Dhillon has been an aggressive and enthusiastic challenger, making it an unusually tight race. Lindell has the best name recognition.

Many polls have shown a lack of support for McDaniel from voters. A recent Trafalgar survey showed Dhillon support at 86%, but it didn’t even include Lindell.
