A California police officer lost his life, and another was injured after being shot while attempting to execute a search warrant this week.
The two officers, who are from the San Luis Obispo Police Department, were shot on Monday evening at an apartment in the area of South Higuera St. and Margarita Ave, the department said in a statement. Neither of their names have been released, though the injured officer is in stable condition after being transported to the hospital.

The suspected shooter was killed by police though it’s yet to be announced if the alleged shooter was the person being served with a warrant.
“This is a tragedy beyond measure for all of those who serve and care about our community,” Derek Johnson, the San Luis Obispo city manager, said, adding, “Our deepest condolences go out to the family. We are devastated by this loss.”
“Late this afternoon, while serving a search warrant in the area of South Higuera St. and Margarita Ave., 2 officers from the City of San Luis Obispo Police Department were shot,” the police department said on Twitter. “The suspect is deceased and there is no threat to public safety at this time.”
Victoria Torres, 21, a neighbor, described hearing “a very loud knocking,” which didn’t alarm her “until I heard the gunshots,” she said to the San Luis Obispo Tribune.

Torres said she looked out her window and saw a police cruiser. When she looked out a different window, she saw a man carrying a “big gun” who began shooting at officers.
“I was pretty startled and frightened,” she said. “I just hid. I looked out the window again when it got quiet. Because I wasn’t sure what happened.”
