Sen. Ted Cruz echoed Donald Trump Sunday when he expressed his support for ending birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants.
"I think birthright citizenship as a policy matter doesn't make sense," the Texas Republican said on CBS's "Face the Nation."
"It doesn't make any sense that our law automatically grants citizenship to their children because what it does is, it incentivizes additional illegal immigration," he added.
Cruz has expressed support for expanding legal immigration by granting more visas to skilled workers.
"We have people from all over the world that come to our universities and they get graduate degrees in math and engineering and computer science, and then we send them back to their own countries," the freshman senator said.
"They start businesses in their own countries, they create jobs there and they compete against us," he said. "I think we want the best and brightest in our country."
