House Speaker Nancy Pelosi celebrated that Democrats were able to pass an economic relief bill that “put workers first.”
“We had to take action that put families first and workers first,” Pelosi said Thursday during a press conference. “That’s what we did when we did our first legislation in addressing the emergency directly.”
The Senate has passed a $2 trillion economic relief bill that is expected to go to the House for a vote on Friday.

“It went from a corporate first proposal that the Republicans put forth in the Senate to a workers first — Democratic workers first — legislation,” Pelosi said. “The bill that was passed in the Senate last night and that we will take up tomorrow is about mitigation. Mitigation for all the loss that we have in our economy while still addressing the emergency health needs that we have in our country.”
Pelosi said the Senate’s bill insufficient and outlined a plan for a fourth bill she and Democrats are planning.
“I take pride in the fact Democrats in the Senate and in the House were able to flip this over from corporate, trickle down version to bubble up, worker first, families first legislation,” Pelosi said.
