Alan Colmes, liberal pundit and longtime Fox News personality, has died.

Fox News announced his death Thursday on social media.

Colmes was 66.

A statement on his personal website said he "passed away this morning after a brief illness."

Colmes was a longtime sparring partner for Fox News anchor Sean Hannity, when the two hosted the program "Hannity and Colmes."

Colmes also hosted his own radio show "The Alan Colmes Show."

In late January, Colmes told his fans he would sometimes be absent from his show to deal with "medical issues."
