Huma Abedin filed for divorce from Anthony Weiner on Friday, the same day he pleaded guilty to charges related to sexting with a 15-year-old girl.
According to the New York Post, Abedin filed anonymously in Manhattan Supreme Court and has asked for the case to be sealed.
Abedin and Weiner first split in August 2016 after the disgraced ex-congressman was caught sending a photo of his crotch to a woman, with his toddler son in the background. One month later, the Daily Mail reported that Weiner had been carrying on a months-long explicit relationship with a teenage girl.
Weiner pleaded guilty on Friday to transmitting sexual material to a minor. He will have to register as a sex offender and could be sentenced to prison.
Despite the ongoing court case, Abedin was reported in March to have given Weiner another chance.
It was the FBI investigation into Weiner's relationship with the teenage girl that led FBI agents to seize his computer, resulting in the discovery of more emails sent from Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton to Abedin, and leading then-FBI Director James Comey to announce he was re-opening the investigation into Clinton's private server days before the general election contest between Clinton and President Trump.
