WATCH: Royal guard faints while standing watch at Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin

A guard fainted while he stood vigil at Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin Wednesday.

It was the queen’s first day of lying in state at Westminster Hall, Parliament’s house of government. Her coffin had just been through a procession from London’s Buckingham Palace and will remain at Westminster Hall until her funeral in Westminster Abbey on Monday.

The guard was among the several assigned to guard the coffin set on a stage called a catafalque in the Sovereign’s Bodyguard, the Household Division, and Yeoman Warders of the Tower of London. He briefly swayed and stumbled off the catafalque in one moment captured on video before assuming position again. A few seconds later, he fainted, falling forward and knocking his cap off.

Elizabeth’s coffin began its tour at the queen’s summer residence, Balmoral Castle, in Scotland, and was then transported to her residence in Edinburgh and then St. Giles’s Cathedral before arriving in London. There will be 20 vigils on Monday morning alone, just before her funeral begins at Westminster Abbey. President Joe Biden has already announced he will be in attendance.
