Elizabeth Warren said a young college student donated half of what was remaining in her bank account to the senator’s campaign.
Warren, the senator from Massachusetts running for the Democratic presidential nomination, retold the story in an interview on MSNBC Tuesday night after a disappointing performance in the New Hampshire primary where she wasn’t awarded a single delegate.
She said that a “broke college student with a lot of student loan debt” approached her in the “selfie line” at the end of her primary event. The senator said that the young woman told her, “I checked, and I have $6 in the bank — so I just gave $3 to keep you in this fight.”

In addition to Warren’s poor showing in the primary, former Vice President Joe Biden finished in fifth and also walked away without any delegates to show for it. After the Iowa and New Hampshire contests, the two of them have won a combined 14 of the 65 delegates up for grabs.
The loss is especially tough for Warren’s campaign: The Massachusetts Democrat led polling in New Hampshire as late as October.
