The White House was quick Thursday to emphasize Attorney General William Barr’s statement that President Trump did not collude with the Russians.
“As he said from the beginning, there was in fact no collusion,” the White House account tweeted, quoting Barr, who made the statement in a press conference at the Justice Department on Thursday morning.
“The Special Counsel’s report did not find any evidence that members of the Trump campaign or anyone associated with the campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in these hacking operations,” the White House wrote in a second tweet, again quoting Barr.
Barr reiterated that special counsel Robert Mueller found no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election. Barr said no Americans assisted the Russians in their attempts to interfere in the election.

Barr also said that while the president was “frustrated and angered” by the Mueller investigation, which he viewed as an attempt to undermine his presidency, his administration “fully cooperated” with the investigation and did not assert executive privilege.
The Justice Department posted the report on its website shortly afterward for public viewing.
