A professor at Fresno State University is expressing joy over the announcement of former first lady Barbara Bush’s passing.
Randa Jarrar, a professor of English at Fresno State, took to Twitter on Tuesday night saying: “Barbara Bush was a generous and smart and amazing racist who, along with her husband, raised a war criminal. Fuck outta here with your nice words.”
Jarrar went on to tweet “the witch is dead” and that she “can’t wait for the rest of her [the Bush] family to fall to their demise.”
When Jarrar received pushback on Twitter, she followed up with: “All the hate I’m getting ALMOST made me forget how happy I am that George W Bush is probably really sad right now.”
Mrs. Bush was first lady from 1989 to 1993 and lived to age 92. She died Tuesday evening with family by her side.
Fresno State University President Joseph Castro released a statement late Tuesday night calling Jarrar’s comments “obviously contrary to the core values of our University, which include respect and empathy for individuals with divergent points of view, and a sincere commitment to mutual understanding and progress.”

As of Wednesday morning, Jarrar’s Twitter account was made private and her bio states that she is currently on leave from the university.
Last year, a history professor at Fresno State was placed on paid leave after writing on Twitter that President Trump “must hang” to save American democracy.
