It might be worth a trek out to Vienna to meet Eater DC’s “Hottest Chef 2013” and his tiny, nine-table Maple Avenue Restaurant.
“I hope people are coming in for the food, not to see me,” Chef Tim Ma told Yeas & Nays. The Virginia native described Maple Ave’s “hottest dish” as a scallops and coconut risotto dish served with savory basil ice cream.
Ma, who still operates as a line cook five to six days a week, admitted that he doesn’t show his face around the dining room very often. “I guess if there’s more requests [to see me] we’ll have to do
something about that,” he joked.
Eater crowned Portland’s Pascal Sauton the “Hottest Chef in America” last week. There’s always next year, East Coast.
