Cruz: Dems are ‘sore losers’ with recount push

Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday called on Green Party nominee Jill Stein and supporters of Hillary Clinton to stop acting like “sore losers” as they continue to contest President-elect Trump’s victories in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

“I think it is sad to see the Green Party and the Democratic Party acting like sore losers,” Cruz told reporters in the Capitol. “We had an election. It was decided fair and square, and the American people overwhelmingly voted to elect Donald Trump the next president.”

“The president-elect won over 300 electoral votes, and the election is a powerful mandate of change,” Cruz said. “Instead of challenging the results in court, the Democrats should be listening to the voters and hearing their demand for change, and hopefully in time that’s what they’ll choose to do.”

Stein is currently contesting results of the election in Wisconsin and preparing one for Michigan by Wednesday. She is also organizing a petition effort to force a recount in Pennsylvania despite missing the deadline.

In Wisconsin, Stein is suing the state after the Wisconsin Election Commission declined to force counties to recount the votes by hand. Since announcing her plans for the recount, Stein has raised over $6 million, more than she raised during her entire campaign for the presidency.

On Tuesday, Republicans continued to bash the efforts. In a radio interview in Wisconsin, House Speaker Paul Ryan panned the move as nothing more than a “fundraising and publicity stunt.”
