PHILADELPHIA — A handful of celebrities addressed reporters Wednesday about the Democratic National Committee’s last-minute decision to strip Nina Turner, a prominent surrogate for Bernie Sanders, of her speaking slot at the convention on Monday.
Susan Sarandon, Danny Glover, Rosario Dawson and Shailene Woodley headlined a gathering meant to “stand in solidarity” with the spurned speaker as their convention commenced for the evening.
“If it was Beyonce, everybody would have found a way to make sure she had spoken,” Sarandon said.
The movie star said she planned to deregister as a Democrat due to the party’s unfair treatment of Sanders and his allies as it moved to nominate Hillary Clinton this week.
“This party convention has been unlike any convention in decades in this country,” Glover said.
Sarandon has been an outspoken critic of Clinton throughout the primary season.
