Cruz: ‘The real Donald Trump is a Democrat’

Ted Cruz said he believes the “real” Donald Trump is a Democrat, despite the billionaire’s effort to win the Republican presidential nomination.

“Donald Trump has supported the Democrat politicians who have made it difficult for average Americans to get ahead,” Cruz said in a statement. “Trump’s record of electing Democrats proves he’s not being truthful about what he says he supports and what he claims he’ll do. The real Donald Trump is a Democrat and should not be our party’s nominee.”

Cruz’s presidential campaign is pushing a new ad spotlighting Trump’s donations to New York Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer and Anthony Weiner.

The ad claims that Trump made $600,000 in political contributions, including $6,400 to Clinton, $8,900 to Schumer, $4,450 to Weiner, and $138,600 to the Democratic Party of New York.

Cruz campaigned in New York City on Wednesday, Trump’s home turf, as part of an effort to put the liberal stronghold into his column in the GOP primary season. New York’s Republican nominating contest will be held on April 19.
