Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said even he is surprised by his polling success and refused to take more shots at his rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
When asked by ABC News’ Jon Karl in an interview to talk about Cruz, who has seized the lead from Trump in Iowa, the usually combative real estate mogul passed.
“He is a very nice guy,” Trump said. “He has been very respectful.”
Trump, who launched his campaign on June 16, added that he is faring better than he expected in the fight for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
“It’s a very, very big lead, so I didn’t think that we would have that,” the billionaire businessman said. Trump said he believes Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton will be an easier mark in a general election than his Republican foes.
“I am beating everybody and, in my opinion, beating Hillary is easier than beating these people,” he said of his Republican rivals.
In a RealClearPolitics average of polls, Trump has 36.5 percentage points as the leader, while Cruz trails him in second place with 17.8. Cruz and Trump are first and second in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings.
