Utility worker killed in multivehicle crash
A utility worker assisting Dominion Virginia Power with restoring power after Friday’s storm was killed in a multiple-vehicle crash, authorities said.
Jacqueline R. Green, 57, of Milton, Fla., died at the scene of the collision, which took place about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on Route 7 near Bluemont, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Green was driving in a convoy of three Gulf Power trucks aiding Dominion Virginia Power crews. Witnesses told authorities that the 2004 Freightliner bucket truck that Green was driving struck a 2008 Freightliner trucktractor-semitrailer, which was pushed into the side of a 2012 Toyota Tacoma.
Authorities said it seems there were issues with the bucket truck’s brakes.
Silver Spring man charged in fatal stabbing
A man has been charged in a stabbing death in Silver Spring, police said.
Hugo Rodriguez, 38, of Silver Spring, was charged with first-degree murder, according to Montgomery County police.
The incident occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment at 8060 13th St. Rodriguez and 35-year-old Thomas Harvey, who knew each other, were involved in a dispute that turned into a physical altercation. Both were armed with knives. Rodriguez stabbed Harvey, who was taken to a hospital and died, police said.
Police investigating death of woman found during a fire
D.C. police are investigating the death of a woman, who was found during a fire in Southeast D.C.
The fire began at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in an apartment building on the 1600 block of 17th Street SE. While firefighters were putting out the blaze, they found 71-year-old Mildred Maria Harrison lying on the floor of an apartment, officials said.
Harrison had no signs consistent with life and was pronounced dead at the medical examiner’s office. Police said her cause of death is pending an autopsy.
