Comedian and television host Drew Carey joined Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson’s presidential campaign as the honorary chairman for California Tuesday.
“Getting behind Gary Johnson was an easy choice. Gary Johnson is reasonable. He’s a real person. He’s a pragmatic problem-solver who knows how to govern,” Carey said in a press release from Johnson’s team. “So I’m happy to join Gary Johnson and to campaign for a candidate, here in California and across America, who doesn’t want your money to be wasted or want your children put at risk in a needless war.”
The host of “The Price is Right” will accompany Johnson and running mate Bill Weld with events and voter turnout in the Golden State, speaking on their behalf at California rallies.
“I couldn’t be more honored. Drew’s support means a great deal to Bill Weld and me, and his willingness to take such a prominent leadership role is extremely gratifying. His voice reaches millions of Americans across all ages and political persuasions,” Johnson said.
Carey identifies as a Libertarian and has worked in the past with the Reason Foundation. Carey’s appointment makes him the second comedy star to be added to Johnson’s roster. Last week, Melissa Joan Hart was named the chairwoman of Connecticut.
