British PM: No re-vote on EU withdrawal

British Prime Minister David Cameron said the government must accept the British vote to leave the European Union and rejected the possibility of a second referendum Monday.

Conservative member of Parliament Philip Davies asked Cameron to say whether national unity is dependent on accepting “the result of the referendum whether they like it or not, that talk of a second referendum is for the birds.” Davies previously endorsed the campaign for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union, a decision his party leader had opposed.

“Well, he’s absolutely right. We must accept the result and the Cabinet has and I think everybody should. But obviously what has to happen now is translating that result into action and choosing the correct pathway to leave the European Union and the correct relationship to have with it,” replied Cameron, during the heated discussion at the House of Commons.

Cameron, who announced his resignation after the vote, said the succeeding government will be forced to engage in “a lot of complex decision-making” to ensure a smooth transition.
