Lock them up — all of them. Every single Confederate flag and QAnon toting thug storming the Capitol is a criminal, a violent and traitorous one at that. In order to do that, send in the troops. Deal with the criminals actively trying to steal the election by terrorizing our government.
As I write this, I have Capitol Hill staffers texting me in outright rage and fear. Democrat or Republican, you may loathe the politicians they work for, but they’re real people with real families. Currently, Capitol police are being overrun by traitors trying to threaten their way to seize the election for Donald Trump. Oh, and what is the supposed leader of the Republican Party and the United States of America doing? Tweeting about how Mike Pence, the vice president who served Trump with absolute fealty for four years, doesn’t have enough courage to defy the Constitution, disenfranchise millions of people, and rig the electoral vote in his favor.
Trump asked for this. He did so repeatedly. During a global pandemic, he begged maskless conspiracy theorists to come to the capital and, well, do something. Mayor Muriel Bowser put all of Washington D.C.’s police on duty and called in 500 members of the National Guard. And still, the Capitol building itself has been breached. Tear gas has been deployed. Members of the House have been instructed to hide under their chairs. Guns have been drawn.
This is a national disgrace. More troops are needed now. The only question when it comes to arrests is if we treat these thugs like common criminals or insurrectionists. I hope it’s the latter.
