BOLTON, N.Y. (AP) — State police say an off-duty trooper has been charged with reckless endangerment after he accidentally shot another man while duck hunting in the Adirondacks.
Police say a man reported hearing a loud bang Monday near his camper at a campground in the Warren County town of Bolton, 60 miles north of Albany.
Troopers say a second round then hit his camper and a shotgun pellet struck him in his left thigh, causing a minor bruise.
An investigation led to the arrest of 37-year-old Benjamin Davis of Queensbury. Troopers say he was also charged with violating state environmental conservation laws by discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
Troopers say Davis is a 14-year veteran of the New York State Police. He has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
His lawyer tells The Post-Star of Glens Falls that Davis has cooperated with the inquiry.
