The Ravens completed the preseason 1-3 following their 10-9 loss Thursday night to the Atlanta Falcons at M&T Bank Stadium. Here is a look at the highlights and lowlights of the game.
STAR OF THE DAY
Daniel Wilcox: The Ravens tight end appears to be close to 100 percent after recovering from offseason toe surgery. Wilcox appeared in his second straight preseason game and finished with three catches for 32 yards, helping solidify himself as the top backup to starter Todd Heap.
PLAY OF THE DAY
Ravens wide receiver Demetrius Williams had missed all of training camp and the first three preseason games while recovering from a left Achilles tendon injury. But, the three-year veteran came through with a big play in the final seconds of the first quarter when he snagged a 22-yard reception over the middle on a pass from rookie quarterback Joe Flacco.
YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN
Apparently, a fourth preseason game was not something many people in Baltimore wanted to come out and see. While there was an announced crowd of 70,149 fans at M&T Bank Stadium, there were plenty of empty seats, as fans just weren’t interested in seeing a Ravens game knowing most of the starters would see very limited action, if they even played at all. Linebacker Ray Lewis and cornerbacks Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle were among the Ravens starters who did not take the field.
QUARTERBACK BATTLE
The Ravens are no closer now than they were at the start of training camp from figuring out their quarterback situation. Rookie Joe Flacco completed 8-of-13 passes for 72 yards before being relieved by journeyman Casey Bramlet early in the second quarter. Kyle Boller and Troy Smith did not play against the Falcons. Boller is still dealing with what appears to be a serious right shoulder injury while Smith is still recovering from a tonsil infection. Smith went to Union Memorial Hospital for treatment and is expected to be there at least two days.
