Fresno State University implements a new Title IX task force

Fresno State University launched its Title IX Task Force that will examine how the university handles sexual abuse allegations beginning on April 22.

Saul Jimenez-Sandoval, the university’s president, said in a video Friday that the task force will release its first report in July.

“In the coming months, you will regularly hear from our task force chair, Dean [Bernadette] Muscat,” Jimenez-Sandoval said.

“We are committed to moving forward with transparency and accountability, and I want to personally thank Dean Muscat for leading the charge,” he said.

Muscat is a former professor from the criminology department with an emphasis on victimology. The other members of the task force, assigned by the California State University Trustees, include Student Body President D’Aungillique Jackson, three other students, and 14 external Title IX experts.

The news comes nearly a month since California State University Chancellor Joseph Castro resigned after colleagues claimed he mishandled sexual abuse allegations while working as the president of Fresno State University. It comes two months since Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Frank Lamas was revealed to have many allegations against him. Lamas retired in 2020 with a $260,000 offer from Castro.

FSU did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
