Kaine: FBI Notes Show Why Clinton Wasn’t Indicted

Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine said Sunday that FBI documents on the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, released Friday, show why the former secretary of state was not indicted.

“What these notes demonstrate is in very significant detail why the FBI chose not to go forward with any additional proceeding,” the Virginia senator told ABC’s Martha Raddatz, and said that Clinton wanted the public to see the notes.

“She did make a mistake, and she made it by deciding she wanted to use one device rather than multiple devices. She’s apologized for that,” Kaine said. “But these notes, which Hillary urged be made public, demonstrate clearly why the FBI saw no need for additional criminal proceedings.”

The FBI notes said that Clinton did not know what certain classification markings stood for, including a ‘C’ that labeled information classified.

“Clinton could not say for sure if the parenthetical “C” is used for portion marking classified documents,” the report said. “Clinton understood the top of the email is marked “Confidential” and asked the interview Agents if that was what “C” referenced.”

The documents also noted that Clinton “relied on staff to tell her what was classified,” and that “archived emails were deleted even after a congressional committee requested them,” Raddatz said.
