Sanders: We need to defeat Trump badly

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., told voters in Minneapolis on Tuesday that they need to defeat GOP nominee Donald Trump, and they need to defeat him badly.

“Our job right now seems pretty clear to me: Is to defeat and to defeat badly the worst candidate for president in the modern history of the United States, Donald Trump,” the Vermont senator told a roomful of Hillary Clinton supporters.

“Our job is to elect Hillary Clinton as president but to also understand that our job is not done just by electing Secretary Clinton. On the day after, we continue the movement,” Sanders said, adding, “Our job under President Hillary Clinton is to see [the most progressive platform, the Democratic platform] is implemented.”

Sanders, who ran a sharp and surprisingly competitive campaign against Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primary, signed on recently as one of the Democratic nominee’s top surrogates.

His remarks Tuesday – that Trump needs to be sent away with more than just a simple defeat — comes amid the Clinton campaign’s larger efforts to give undecided voters a reason to resist voting third party this November.
