Singer Stevie Wonder took “a knee for America” Saturday before performing at the 2017 Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, New York City.

“Tonight, I’m taking a knee for America,” he began.

“But not just one knee. I’m taking both knees — both knees in prayer for our planet, our future, our leaders of the world and our globe,” Wonder said.

After saying “amen,” Wonder said, “I wanted to say that prayers before I serve you my musical meal.”

Wonder’s “prayer” comes one day after President Trump urged NFL team owners to get rid of players who kneel during the nation anthem.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He is fired. He’s fired,'” Trump said.

The president has faced widespread backlash over those comments, including from NFL players and the league’s commissioner, Roger Goodell.

Other acts expected to perform at the festival include the Chainsmokers, the Killers, Green Day, Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, and Alessia Cara.
