It’s the home to the NASCAR Hall of Fame and racing’s spirit, but when the Democrats hit Charlotte, N.C. next week to nominate President Obama for a second term, there won’t be a NASCAR event to herald it.
An organization official told Secrets that NASCAR had considered a convention shindig, but nothing is planned now.
But that’s not stopping the Democrats from trying to look race friendly. Officials said that the NASCAR Hall of Fame has been rented out for up to 10 parties and receptions.
And, said a convention spokeswoman, the party had fun decorating a stock car with some 3,500 names of supporters who gave a $5 donation. Helping was NASCAR legend H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler, past president of the Charlotte Motor Speedway where the Democrats planned, then cancelled, a major event.
