Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign hand won’t be part of 2016 run

Guy Cecil, who worked on Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, won’t manage her 2016 campaign.

Instead, Cecil will help Clinton in a noncampaign capacity.

“I have spent time with Secretary Clinton encouraging her to run because I believe our country needs her vision and leadership,” Cecil said in a statement, according to Politico. “I have offered her my full support and will be her most vocal volunteer, but after 10 years of some of the toughest campaigns around, I am eager to try my hand at something new and to serve my country in a different way.”

Clinton “knows there are few champions in politics today as tirelessly devoted to the protection and advancement of Democratic values as Guy is,” her spokesman Nick Merrill told Politico.

“And no matter what, she will always count on Guy to continue that work for her, for the Democratic Party, and for America,” Merrill added.

As for Cecil, he has met with nongovernmental organizations, nonprofits and political firms — and he may still find a spot at a super PAC backing a Clinton presidential campaign.

Now, the field of potential campaign managers for Clinton is a bit smaller — leaving Robby Mook, who managed Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s campaign as the front-runner.

Clinton is leading the potential Democratic presidential nominee field by nearly 50 points, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls — her closest competitor is Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who continually denies she will run in 2016.
