President Trump is expected to take executive action Tuesday morning to approve the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipeline projects, the Washington Examiner has learned.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters on Monday that the new commander in chief believes both projects will “increase jobs, increase economic growth and tap into America’s energy supply,” though he stopped short of confirming that Trump would move forward on them.
“It will be signed within the hour,” a source close to the administration told the Washington Examiner early Tuesday morning.
President Obama had rejected Keystone in November 2015, arguing at the time that doing so would send the wrong message to those following U.S.-led efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
Trump had made a campaign trail promise to fast-track the massive oil pipeline if elected. His nominees for energy secretary and EPA administrator both support the projects’ approval.
