WSJ editor confronted on being a ‘stop Trump-er’

Mary Kissel, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, found herself labeled as a “stop Trump-er” on Wednesday morning by MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski.

Kissel sat in as a guest on the program Wednesday to discuss the New York primary, which delivered a big win for Republican front-runner Donald Trump.

“Just yes or no, do you think Donald Trump is terrible for America? Just yes or no,” said Brzezinski.

“We don’t talk about people, we talk about policies,” replied Kissel, referring to the Journal’s editorial board which has been highly critical of Trump’s positions on trade and immigration.

“It just seems like you come to the table like a ‘stop Trump-er,’ so I just want to make clear as to what box everyone’s in,” said Brzezinski.

Kissel said that the host was free to label her any way, but that “we’re about policies.”

“I’m not labeling you, I’m just getting a huge feeling from you that you are seething with rage about his success,” said Brzezinski.

“I feel like I should say this very slowly,” Kissel replied. “We do not endorse candidates, we endorse policies.”

Brzezinski said she wanted Kissel “to be more transparent.”

The Journal’s editorial board has published several articles in disagreement with Trump’s candidacy, both on his policies and his temperament.

Most recently, the paper hit Trump’s campaign as having been “too lazy or inept” to figure out the intricacies of the primary delegate system. That failure has benefited his closest rival, Ted Cruz, who has managed to shore up delegates in states that figure out who to support by party convention instead of by state-wide votes.
