How’s this for a game change? Former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson has accepted an invitation from Fox News to participate in Thursday’s debate in Florida.

Johnson notched at least 1% in five recent national polls on the race, which is a criteria to participate.

The Florida Republican Party is dubious about his qualifications, but it appears that its now official.

“I would be saying things different than everyone else up there,” Johnson told Politico, “I’m promising to submit a balanced budget in 2013. I am promising to veto spending legislation that exceeds revenue. I am promising to overhaul the tax code, that means throwing out the entire federal tax system and replacing it with the fair tax.”

Johnson also supports gay rights, the legalization of marijuana, and is pro-choice, views that are sure to shake up the debate.
