NEW YORK (AP) — Incumbent Rep. Gregory Meeks won the Democratic primary for New York’s 5th Congressional District.
Meeks on Tuesday easily defeated opponent Joseph Marthone, an accountant, according to unofficial results. He now goes onto the general election in November.
The district is mostly in Queens but also includes a small portion of Nassau County.
Meeks has been an attorney and a judge, and also a member of the New York State Assembly.
