Former Vice President Al Gore is hopeful that Donald Trump might be able to change his tune on climate change, but admits he’s not sure.
“[Trump] has said some things on the climate crisis that I think should concern everyone,” Gore told NBC. “I’m not Pollyanna-ish about it, but I do think that there is still some basis for some hope.”
Gore brought attention to the issue in his 2006 documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.” But Trump has called climate change a “hoax” and even tweeted in 2012 that China created the concept “in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.”
Gore noted that former President Jimmy Carter said he hopes Trump will be “malleable” on climate, but Gore said “I don’t know.”
Gore said there are representatives on both sides of the aisle fighting the issue, which includes members of the Tea Party.
“I’m proud to have some Tea Party allies,” Gore said. “What’s being called the green Tea Party.”
