George Washington’s first national television appearance of the season in November was an eminently forgettable one, as the Colonials were thoroughly embarrassed in a 25-point loss to then-No. 4 Rutgers in front of a packed Smith Center.
The Colonials looked much more composed the second time around Sunday afternoon, going nearly 18 minutes to open the game without a turnover and matching their season-low with eight for the game, in a 56-46, Atlantic 10 Conference-opening win over visiting Xavier.
“It’s the conference opener, and our plan is to dominate the A-10,” said Jessica Adair. “Tonight was a start.”
Adair scored 15 points and Kimberly Beck had 12 for the Colonials (13-3, 1-0 A-10), who didn’t give the ball away until 2:25 remaining in the first half on the way to their eighth straight win. Jazmine Adair came off the bench to deliver six points and equaled her career high with 12 rebounds.
Amber Harris paced the defending conference champion Musketeers (10-6, 0-1) with 18 points and eight rebounds.
