Christopher Columbus receives justice in a Philadelphia court

A Common Pleas Court judge in Philadelphia ruled that a Christopher Columbus monument would be able to remain in the city. The statue became a sign of controversy after the woke mob clashed with local residents in calling for the statue’s removal.

Judge Paula Patrick ruled that the city had no right to remove the statue last year. Patrick also said the decision was not supported by law and lacked the evidence to make such a decision.

“It is baffling to this court as to how the City of Philadelphia wants to remove the Statue without any legal basis. The city’s entire argument and case is devoid of any legal foundation,” Patrick said.

Patrick’s decision should be applauded by all. Philadelphia’s mayor and other city leadership cowardly submitted to the demands of a mob in the summer of 2020. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney’s chief of staff urged the removal of the statue as a matter of public safety. Additionally, the mayor cited systemic racism as a reason to have the statue moved.

“Like many communities across the country, Philadelphia is in the midst of a much-needed reckoning about the legacy of systemic racism and oppression in this country and around the world,” said Kenney. “Part of that reckoning requires reexamining what historical figures deserve to be commemorated in our public spaces.”

Other city officials at the time shared similar views.

“Philadelphia’s public art should reflect the people and spirit of our city without dividing us as a community. As we’ve seen demonstrated here and across the country, many of the individuals that are celebrated in bronze and stone are a point of pride to some, while causing great pain for others whose ancestors were impacted by their actions and whose communities still suffer under systems of oppression,” Public Art Director Margot Berg said.

Except, in reality, these claims are frivolous hogwash. The attacks on Columbus exist merely because a group of leftist ideologues does not like the fact that white people are celebrated for their historical accomplishments. They seek to revise history to vilify the accomplishments of these white historical figures as solely the result of the exploitation of another race of people. The city removed Columbus Day as a holiday and replaced it with Indigenous People’s Day. The city demonized Columbus for allegedly enslaving and conquering people, yet replaced it with a holiday to celebrate societies that were known for their enslaving, killing, massacres, and conquering.

Columbus’s day in court corrected Philadelphia’s gross injustice. The attacks on the Columbus monument had no legal basis, as the judge ruled, but it also had no moral legitimacy either. No one alive today in the city of Philadelphia was victimized by Columbus. Nor were any of their ancestors, it seems safe to say.

Any accusations of such is nothing more than contemporary Bolshevism, provoked by leftist ideologues. Kenney and other members of the city’s leadership tried to impose their ideology on Philadelphia. Thankfully, Patrick provided justice to Columbus.
