A man was arrested early Saturday after a hours-long standoff with police at the Belle Haven Marina in Alexandria.
Northern Virginia resident John Watson, 44, is in custody at the Alexandria Jail after being arrested on assault charges around 2 a.m., said a United States Park Police spokesman.
A report of shots fired brought police to the marina Friday night, where they saw Watson, armed with a gun, jump into a small boat and travel out to a sailboat anchored in the Potomac River. Police spent several hours trying to contact Watson before he was arrested without incident, according to the Associated Press.
No one was injured, Park Police spokesman Sergeant Paul Brooks said Saturday but, he could provide no further details as the incident is under investigation.
