Fiancee: Vet gave show errant photo by ‘mistake’

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The fiancée of an “America’s Got Talent” contestant scrutinized for claims he was injured in Afghanistan says he made a “mistake” when he gave the show a photograph of another soldier instead of himself.

The NBC series this week and WFAA-TV of Dallas last month used the picture with segments on Timothy Michael Poe, a former Minnesota National Guardsman who said he was injured in a 2009 grenade attack in Afghanistan. The Guard says military records don’t substantiate those claims.

The original picture on an official military website identifies the soldier as a staff sergeant in Afghanistan in 2006.

Poe’s fiancée, Carrie Morris, says Poe accidentally submitted the wrong photo.

Message seeking comment were left with NBC. WFAA says the station used the picture after receiving it from Poe.
