Rain, rising gas prices called for holiday travel

No white Christmas in Baltimore this year.

Instead, it will be a wet holiday season, with rain making travel just as difficult as his colder cousin.

While Denver is getting hammered with snow, Baltimore residents can expect to get their fair share of rain coming up this weekend. Rain can be expected today through Christmas Day, with a break on Sunday. For those traveling this holiday season, bad weather may lead to delays at the airport and dangerous driving conditions.

In an earlier interview AAA Mid-Atlantic public and government affairs manager Ragina Averella commented on the roads, stating that “the vast majority of holiday travlers will be driving, 52.6 million [of them],” and then went onto add that “997,000 Marylanders will be driving.”

Besides crowded roads, holiday motorists can also expect to see the continued rise of gas prices. AAA lists unleaded gas prices at $2.327 per gallon, an increase of 1 cent from yesterday and nearly 12 cents from last December.
