Newt Gingrich has a lot to lose in his upcoming one-on-one debate with Rick Santorum, according to MSNBCs Lawrence O’Donnell, because Rick Santorum now has the opportunity to beat Gingrich in a debate and claim the mantle of the anti-Romney candidate.
“The key player in the Trump debate is Rick Santorum,” said O’Donnell during an appearance on Morning Joe. “This is the Santorum opportunity to become the alternative to Romney.”
O’Donnell said Santorum has to decide if he hopes to be Vice President on a Gingrich ticket or if he is willing to go on offense. “If he’s really running for president, and he’s given a one-on-one with the frontrunner, he has an opportunity to beat Newt Gingrich to a pulp using every single thing that is in [Gingrich’s] record.”
