A new report by a terrorism monitoring group claims the Islamic State is recruiting fighters for a forensics-like operation.
The terrorism group announced Monday it has obtained microscopes and magnifying glasses, but needed new recruits knowledgeable in fingerprinting and other minor forensics-related tasks, according to the MEMRI Jihadism and Terror Threat Monitor.
The Islamic State said it has launched a “Islamic police forensic department.” The fighters may have acquired the items when they captured cities in Syria and Iraq.
The images show a person dusting for fingerprints while using ultraviolet light to study the prints.
The second photo is of an alleged ISIS lab technician who is studying fingerprints through a microscope.

The final image shows a man giving a check to an apparent pharmacy owner because the terrorist group was successful in solving a crime.

It is unclear whether the group has a fingerprint database that it would cross-reference new fingerprints with.
