Hillary Clinton doesn’t know the difference between the Star of David and “a basic star … used by sheriffs who deal with criminals and criminal behavior,” Donald Trump charged on Monday.
The comments, which were included in a statement Trump issued on Monday evening, are the latest development in a drama about whether an image of a star Trump posted on Twitter had anti-Semitic connotations. “These false attacks by Hillary Clinton trying to link the Star of David with a basic star, often used by sheriffs who deal with criminals and criminal behavior, showing an inscription that says ‘Crooked Hillary is the most corrupt candidate ever’ with anti-Semitism is ridiculous,” Trump said.
“Clinton through her surrogates, is just trying to divert attention from the dishonest behavior of herself and her husband,” he added.

Trump then turned attention to Clinton’s use of a private server and the FBI’s investigation into the issue. “The real questions are, why was Bill Clinton meeting secretly with the US Attorney General on her case and where are the 33,000 missing emails and all of the other information missing from her case — Why are there so many lies?”
The candidates, bedeviled by their respective controversies, have spent the last several days battling to win the high ground. Clinton’s head of Jewish outreach issued a statement earlier on Monday that accused Trump of using a “blatantly anti-Semitic image,” while Trump has hit Clinton, who spent more than three hours meeting with FBI officials over the weekend, for the allegedly improper use of her server.
