Romney’s statewide lead is down to 48%-34%, with Will County, the fast-growing but not most (or least) upscale exurbs of Chicago, reporting. Romney carried Will County 50%-33%, and the more upscale Lake County, north of Cook County, reporting with 99% of the vote coming in with a 56%-28% margin for Romney over Santorum. Cook County, with 85% of precincts reporting, is coming in a bit better for Romney, 57%-26% over Santorum. The exit poll has now moved to a 46%-36% Romney lead over Santorum. Working hypothesis: Santorum voters, like Obama voters in 2008, are more likely to take and return the exit poll questionnaires than are Romney voters, or Hillary Clinton or John McCain voters in 2008.
