Judge denies Crist’s request to extend voting hours in Fla.

A judge Tuesday night denied Florida gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist’s request for an emergency court motion to extend voting hours in heavily populated Broward County.

The motion asked the Circuit Court for the 17th Judicial Circuit to extend voting hours at polling stations from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Crist campaign said the motion was in response to complaints about voting machine malfunctions in the South Florida county, which includes Fort Lauderdale.

The Democratic candidate’s campaign said a polling station was offline for more than an hour and a half Tuesday morning that “caused major delays and impacted voters looking to cast a ballot before work.”

The campaign added that it received reports of several other cases in which “voters who were confused about their proper polling location were provided conflicting information and, in many cases, simply gave up attempting to cast a regular ballot.”
