Illegal immigrants crossing into the United States run the risk of sexual assault at the hands of fellow travellers, the Department of Homeland Security warned after capturing two sex offenders this week.
“Women and children face many dangers at the hands of smugglers who have little regard for their safety,” Chris Clem, a border patrol agent at the Casa Grande station, said in a statement. “One of our priorities to combat criminal organizations is to work with our partners to inform and educate migrants about the risk of being victimized when attempting to enter the United States illegally.”
