President Joe Biden confused attendees at a White House event by announcing that he had COVID-19 instead of Vice President Kamala Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff.
“There’s been a little change in the arrangement with who’s on the stage because the first lady’s husband contracted COVID,” Biden said Tuesday.

Biden had to be corrected before joking that first lady Jill Biden was “fine,” acknowledging that he had been referring to himself.
“The second lady, the first gentleman,” he went on. “How ’bout that?”

Harris was scheduled to appear at the Women’s History Month event celebrating Equal Pay Day but bowed out due to what aides described as “an abundance of caution.”
“The vice president tested negative for COVID-19 today and will continue to test,” Harris’s deputy press secretary, Sabrina Singh, told reporters.
Earlier Tuesday, Harris had stood beside Biden and other prominent lawmakers, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, as the president touted and then signed the $1.5 trillion government funding bill into law.
Emhoff also had public events Tuesday. He had visited a community garden and park in Washington, D.C., to commemorate AmeriCorps Week.
