Gordy Combs is out as football coach at Towson, according to a source close to the situation.

A formal announcement is scheduled for 4:30 this afternoon.

The Tigers have been among the worst teams in the Colonial Athletic Association the past two seasons, going 3-9 overall and 1-7 in league play after going 3-8 overall and 1-7 in the league play last fall.

Combs was named head coach in 1992 and has guided the Tigers to a career record of 92-90.  He has been part of the coaching staff for 35 years and participated in 398 of the program’s 407 games. Combs, a standout Tiger linebacker in 1971 and 1972, graduated with a degree in physical education from Towson.
