Divers find the final 8 USS John McCain sailors killed in collision

The bodies of all 10 sailors missing from the U.S.S. John S McCain have been recovered, a spokesperson for the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet confirmed Sunday.

The men, ranging from ages 20 to 39, died after the destroyer collided with a merchant vessel off the coast of Singapore on Aug. 21.

Navy and Marine Corps divers worked in tandem to recover the remains of: Electronics Technician 1st Class Charles Nathan Findley; Interior Communications Electrician 1st Class Abraham Lopez; Electronics Technician 2nd Class Kevin Sayer Bushell; Electronics Technician 2nd Class Jacob Daniel Drake; Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Timothy Thomas Eckels Jr.; Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Corey George Ingram; Electronics Technician 3rd Class John Henry Hoagland III; and Interior Communications Electrician 3rd Class Logan Stephen Palmer.

Electronics Technician 3rd Class Dustin Louis Doyon and Electronics Technician 3rd Class Kenneth Aaron Smith were found last week.

Adm. John Richardson, commander of naval operations, ordered an “operational pause” following the collision, the fourth such incident in 2017 and the second one to have been deadly.

The Navy also removed Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin, the three-star commander of the 7th Fleet, on Wednesday because the Navy lacked “confidence in his ability to command.”
