State Department: Avoid public transportation in Brussels

The State Department warned U.S. citizens on Tuesday to avoid public transportation in Brussels, after two explosions killed at least 26 people at Brussels’ major airport and a subway station.

State also encouraged people in Brussels to update family members about their status.

State said in a separate tweet that Secretary of State John Kerry has been informed of the “terrorist bombings,” and is closely monitoring the situation. State also tweeted out a message to Belgium:

The Department of Homeland Security also issued tweets Tuesday saying it is also watching the situation, but DHS stopped short of saying the U.S. was making any security adjustments.
