CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said he fully endorses the man who beat him to become Donald Trump’s running mate.
Speaking outside of Cleveland, where the political world is focused on the Republican convention, Christie called on the GOP to unite around Trump and the No. 2 spot on the party’s ticket, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.
“And by the way, we also have an outstanding candidate for vice president,” Christie said to a room full of delegates from Michigan. “Mike Pence is a great guy.”
Christie said he was “relieved” that Trump picked a governor.
“He needs someone with him who has governed, who knows how to govern,” Christie said. “We don’t need another big mouth from Congress, quite frankly, to go there, who has never been responsible for anything, never been responsible for producing results.”
During a Q&A after his remarks, Christie was asked if he would accept a position in a Trump administration as attorney general.
“We’ll see what life brings,” he said.
