Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton threw her support behind the impeachment of President Trump, but claimed she only came to that conclusion with great difficulty.
“I’m in favor of moving toward impeachment,” Clinton told People in an interview published Tuesday. “I did not come to that decision easily or quickly, but this is an emergency as I see it … This latest behavior around Ukraine, trying to enlist the president of Ukraine in a plot to undermine former Vice President Biden or lose the military aide he needs to defend against Trump’s friend, Vladimir Putin — if that’s not an impeachable offense, I don’t know what is.”
Clinton further described the current political situation as “a crisis” and Trump a “corrupt human tornado.”
The interview with Clinton was published the same day Pelosi announced the House would be opening an impeachment inquiry into Trump.
“The actions taken to date by our president have seriously violated the Constitution,” Pelosi said, referring to allegations that Trump urged the Ukrainian president to investigate Joe Biden.
Clinton, 71, lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election, and since then has gone on a speaking tour with her husband to talk about politics and criticize Trump.
